Our Mission

The Tennessee Breast and Cervical Screening Program's mission is to prevent unnecessary disease, disability, and premature death due to cancer of the breast and/or cervix.

About the Program

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Program provides accessible cancer screening services for eligible individuals, particularly in underserved communities, as well as diagnostic follow up tests for individuals with suspicious results.

The program promotes follow-up care and awareness through public education.

Through monitoring trends, the program develops effective strategies and collaborates with various organizations to enhance its reach.

Additionally, the program facilitates Medicaid enrollment for uninsured patients needing treatment and maintains high standards through regular evaluations.

Program Goals

• Provide breast and cervical cancer screening for eligible individuals, focusing on underserved populations
• Ensure timely follow-up, diagnosis, treatment, and navigation for all screened clients
• Promote increased screening through statewide public education to reduce disease morbidity and mortality
• Monitor and analyze trends in cancer incidence, mortality, and screening rates to inform health promotion strategies
• Partner with diverse organizations to access priority populations and enhance program efforts
• Maintain quality assurance monitoring for screening and diagnostic services
• Facilitate Medicaid (TennCare) enrollment for uninsured individuals under 65 who need treatment
• Evaluate program implementation in accordance with NBCCEDP Guidelines

Program Eligibility

Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancers, and women who have signs and symptoms of precancerous conditions, are eligible to be enrolled for treatment coverage through Tennessee’s TennCare Program.

Before enrolling, all women must meet the general eligibility guidelines for the program and to participate in screenings, diagnosis, or treatment.
